The Young Ones Trading Cards

It was a little slow last week and I had been thinking about BBC's The Young Ones ( Vyvyan! You complete and utter bastard! ). I thought about how cool it would have been to have trading cards of the show. CHiP's had them, so did Happy Days and Charlie's Angels, why not trading cards for Rick, Neil, Vyvyan and Mike, right? I may even make a set of them, like 40 to 60 cards and print a few sets on heavy stock.

The background pattern on each card looked pretty good I thought; very 80's very random, kinda punk. But it's really a GAO pattern...don't tell anyone.

Poweredge Magazine May 1989...

This cover of Poweredge from May 1989 is one of my favorites. I've never heard anybody mention it before but this cover photo was from January 1989 when he still rode for Powell Peralta. But when this issue came out he had already started riding for World Industries and got a new wheel sponsor, Santa Cruz, and rode OJ II Teamriders.

A lot of people relate this photo to the Speed Freaks video because it was taken at the same place he skates in it. I don't know what Airwalk had to say about it but he was definitely wearing Chuck Taylor's in the video. You have to dig the Morrissey shirt.

This Powell Peralta Ad Changed Everything...

This Powell ad made everyone run out and buy paint markers if you didn't have them already. Me and my friends were overcome by art once we saw this. This was also the start of the short lived phase of putting your front trucks on with the front bolts nut side up.

This was another Powell ad with griptape art on it. Cab has his mounting bolts on nut side up this time.
